Cost-effective
Reduce material usage thanks to downgauging
MDO-PE films, which replace the PET layer in recyclable stand-up pouches, currently have a thickness of 25 µm and more. The new 14 micron MDP-PE film now achieves the same properties with up to 40% less material.
Circulable
Create recyclability thanks to monostructure
MDO-PE film is already replacing the PET layer in many stand-up pouches. The 14 micron MDO-PE film also fulfills the necessary optical and mechanical properties excellently.
High-Quality
Convince with optics and performance
Test runs have shown: Downgauged MDO-PE film can be processed excellently despite its minimal film thickness and impressed with its exceptional quality in CMYK + Spot colors even at a printing speed of 500m/min.
THE TECHNOLOGy
Thanks to the patented position of the Ultra Stretch unit directly in the haul-off of the blown film line, the film is stretched at the ideal time and with the first heat, making the process particularly efficient and stable.
GOOD To KNOW
In the production of MDO-PE films, the production process used to be unstable from film thicknesses of less than 21 µm. This fact has so far stood in the way of further downgauging of MDO-PE films and thus prevented even more sustainable and economical fully recyclable packaging solutions. The Reifenhäuser recipe with EVO Ultra Stretch technology, on the other hand, runs reproducibly for hours with a film thickness of just 14 µm. A real technological breakthrough!
The typical film thickness for MDO-PE films today is 25 µm. Based on this, manufacturers save up to 40 percent material when producing the new 14 micron MDO-PE film. This reduces costs and at the same time lowers the product carbon footprint of fully recyclable packaging solutions.

No, absolutely not! The mechanical properties are within the standard market range. In terms of optical properties, the 14 micron MDO-PE film performs even better - the haze is < 5% instead of the 6-7% that is standard on the market today.

Films can only succeed in the packaging market if they can also be processed well. We therefore had a 18 micron MDO-PE film (comparable in properties to 14 micron) put through its paces by printing experts BOBST. This is what BOBST says:
"We printed the extremely thin brand new Reifenhauser 18 Micron MDO-PE Film at high speeds of up to 500 m/min with excellent results in terms of printing quality and register performances. But even more impressive was that we were able to demonstrate the quality of our press when printing in the BOBST oneECG process, producing excellent print results at 300 m/min (and more)."
MDO-PE film is generally intended to replace 12 µm PET film, which is used in many 2- or 3-layer packaging. To ensure that fully recyclable ALL-PE packaging does not become more expensive than conventional packaging, manufacturers have the following goal: not to use more material than for PET-PE laminates. Technically, due to the different densities of PET film (1.35-1.4 g/cm³) and MDO-PE film (0.935-0.955 g/cm³), this is achieved by replacing the 12 µm PET film with a 16-17 µm MDO-PE film. The reduction to 14 µm is a milestone; our tests show that the combination of MDO Ultra Stretch Technology with suitable raw materials makes this goal achievable.

With the right technology and the right recipes, no. In our test runs, we produced the 14 µm thin MDO-PE film very stably over many hours. We would be happy to advise you!
