Ms. Djakusic, how exactly does AR:DEL on-the-job work ?
AR:DEL on-the-job supports machine operators during their work at the line. A QR code can be found at different points on the machine. The employee can scan this and our app offers short videos on their cell phone or tablet . They explain, for example, how to service the gearbox or change the oil - step by step, without a lot of text and in a way that is easy to understand. This means that even unexperienced machine operators can fix faults directly on the spot.
AR:DEL Academy
The Reifenhäuser AR:DEL Academy offers various training formats for beginners and advanced learners. The trainers rely on a mix of teaching methods, from classroom training to webinars, practical plant training and a digital learning platform.
How does the concept differ from other training programs?
AR:DEL on-the-job is very different from a normal training in a seminar room, e.g. at our technical center or at the customer's own plant. You can watch the videos whenever a problem occurs or maintenance is needed. A folder full of documentation is not helpful in this case. During the development of AR:DEL on-the-job, we worked very closely with both technicians and machine operators. For each work step, we asked whether it had been explained in a comprehensive way. The goal was to make it as visual as possible so that every employee, regardless of background knowledge, can successfully execute the necessary work. The app is also available in different languages. That's a huge advantage, because not everyone speaks English language that fluently.
Doesn't the academy make itself obsolete with the videos?
Live training is good. But we have noticed that customers need more than that. We do provide knowledge in the training sessions, but employees often come back to the machine and think, 'What was that again about maintenance? That's why we asked ourselves how we could prepare the content, which is already available on our learning platform, even further and customize it more closely to the issues on the machine.
How do producers of films and nonwovens benefit from this?
Many of our customers suffer from high staff turnover and the overall shortage of skilled workers. Because personnel change frequently, it is often not possible to send new employees directly to training courses. Therefore, it was important for us to bring training into the everyday work of the machine operators. Well-trained personnel play an important role in productivity within the company.
Key benefits of AR:DEL on-the-job
In which way?
OEE, or overall equipment effectiveness, is a big issue for customers. It's about reducing operating errors to a minimum in order to achieve the best product quality and receive high output. Each of our customers should be able to get the best out of the plant - no matter which machine operator is on shift. With AR:DEL on-the-job, the machine operator therefore receives support and suggestions as to how he or she can best set up the machine for this purpose. This also reduces the number of wastage. Onboarding is also going much faster. With AR:DEL on-the-job, new employees do not necessarily have to take part in live training, but can still gain access to knowledge. And this happens while production is running - which is very important for our customers. They cannot afford long downtimes.
The AR:DEL on-the-job videos are focused on maintenance tasks and important service procedures in the first step. What are your plans for the future?
We currently have two pilot customers for AR:DEL on-the-job. We are happy if the pilot phase goes well and the customers are satisfied. Then we want to offer AR:DEL on-the-job on a wide basis and thus offer our customers a solution with which they can easily master their production challenges despite the shortage of skilled personnel. In the next step, we want to develop something for process engineers.
