The Reifenhäuser family supports the Troisdorf women's and children's shelter with a donation of €10,000.

Social responsibility

Escaping everyday life and seeing the sea: this wish shared by many residents of the Troisdorf women's and children's shelter can be fulfilled this year thanks to a donation of €10,000 from the Reifenhäuser family. The funds will enable all the women and their children to take a week-long trip to the Baltic Sea – something that was previously not possible for financial reasons. The Reifenhäuser family supports the Troisdorf women's and children's shelter with €10,000.

“Joint excursions are an important part of our work. They help the women to process their experiences and enjoy carefree moments,” explains Maike Wilken, member of the management board of the sponsoring association Frauen helfen Frauen Troisdorf e.V. (Women Help Women Troisdorf). "Until now, we have only been able to offer day trips. Some of our residents have told us that they have never been to the sea. So we are very happy that we can now plan this trip."

The shelter, built in 2021, offers space for up to 12 women and 18 children in 10 apartments. The average length of stay is 6 to 12 months – an intense period during which the team supports the residents in finding stability and normality in their everyday lives again. The joint trip to the Baltic Sea is an essential building block on this journey.

“Despite being self-sufficient in shared accommodation, we are dependent on donations to cover travel and accommodation costs,” adds Wilken. “The generous donation from the Reifenhäuser family contributes significantly to covering these costs and will also be used for Christmas and birthday presents for the children in our facility.”

Susi Reifenhäuser and Antonia Lecour visited the women's shelter together with their son Lando to hand over the donation. “We are very impressed by the facility and the work of the staff,” says Antonia Lecour. “The fact that the shelter is almost always full despite its comparatively high capacity shows how important such safe havens are. We want to help the women here regain their zest for life.”

Susi Reifenhäuser added: “We have been involved with Frauen helfen Frauen Troisdorf e.V. for many years and know how valuable the association's work is. Mixed financing from public funds and donations remains a major challenge. We are therefore very happy to provide support in order to create additional scope for action that goes beyond the mere protection of women.”
