Troisdorf, 02.07.2013. Reifenhäuser Extrusion Technology has developed a new wood polymer composite (WPC) decking system. The system combines new profile and die-head designs and can be manufactured for 50 percent less than the current market standard. For wooden decking or facia cladding Reiwood also offers significant advantages when mounting.
The reduction of manufacturing costs by 50 percent comes primarily from the design of the visible profile: The new geometry alone allowed developers at Reifenhäuser Extrusion Technology to save more than 20 percent on material. The stability and technical properties of the profile surpass the VHI standard even with these material savings. Suitable for the new profile, Reifenhäuser Extrusion Technology has developed a new die-head design for the Reifenhäuser Bitrudex extrusion line that enables significantly higher production speeds.
Thorsten Weber, WPC senior manager at Reifenhäuser Extrusion Technology, said: "Our new profile is a minor revolution. With know-how in the areas of product marketing, product design, recipe development and extrusion line technology, we have been able to develop a completely novel profile. It gives our customers a major advantage over the competition – financially, but also when handling the profile. Assembly and maintenance are simplified considerably."
Reiwood can be installed perfectly level and has been designed as a click system, so that the planks can be conveniently connected with the supporting base. This is not possible with commercially available hollow chamber profiles: They have to be laid so that water can drain out of the hollow chamber. Frost creates stress fractures in the profile. The alternative full profiles are disproportionately expensive due to the large amount of material required. The Reiwood profile has been developed by Reifenhäuser Extrusion Technology to be neither hollow chamber nor full profile, but rather to combine the advantages of both systems.
The Reiwood WPC extrusion line has been installed in the new Reifenhäuser Extrusion Technology Center. The new profile and associated technology will be presented to a large public for the first time at the K 2013. The expo will be held from the 16th to the 23rd of October in Düsseldorf. On the 17th and 21st of October 2013 the current extrusion line can be viewed in the technology center in Troisdorf.
